Studio 46 Barcelona
Atelier & Private Art Gallery by Joan Barbarà
Studio 46
Welcome to Studio 46:
Founded in 1974 by Joan Barbarà (Barcelona, 1927-2013), Studio 46 is a cornerstone of Barcelona’s artistic landscape, recognized internationally for its innovative fusion of traditional engraving techniques with contemporary mastery in mixed media. We celebrate our 50th anniversary by opening our doors to the public for exclusive visits.
Our Legacy
Joan Barbarà, a distinguished Catalan painter, printmaker, and lithographer, established the workshop which soon became legendary, attracting and collaborating with art icons like Picasso, Miró, and Dalí. Today, the workshop is led by master Virgili Barbarà, Joan’s son, who continues the legacy. Additionally, Om Barbarà, Joan’s grandson, represents the third generation of artists, helping to lead the Studio and prepare it for the future together with Martin Sky, the Studio Manager, thereby contributing to the enduring heritage of Studio 46.
Featured Artists at Studio 46:
Our space has hosted and colaborated with over 300 artists, including historical figures such as Antoni Tàpies, Eduardo Chillida, Ferdinand Finne, Joan Miró, Joseph Beuys, Modest Cuixart, Pablo Picasso, Richard Hamilton, and Salvador Dalí.
Currently, we collaborate with contemporary talents like Cecilia Morales, El Xupet Negre, JJ Walker, Joaquim Falco, Juliana Plexxo, Lorenzo Quinn, Nuria Guinovart, Om Barbarà, Umit Sural, Tano Pisano, and Mario Pasqualotto.
These collaborations intertwine tradition with contemporary innovation, solidifying Studio 46 as an essential figure in the art world.

Studio 46 decides to celebrate the 50 years anniversary through an exhibition dedicated to the Mediterranean Sea. The occasion fits with the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup, hosted in Barcelona for this edition, where the link between man and ocean is stronger than ever. The exhibition is spread in three locations around the city and is powered by ISDIN and Bluewave Alliance, a non-profit initiative that aims to restore the health and beauty of the Mediterranean Sea.
