Studio 46 Barcelona celebrated its 50th anniversary with Art Med, an exhibition that merges artistic innovation with environmental activism, focusing on marine conservation and the generation of reef habitats.
Art Med: Making waves
ART MED is not just an art exhibition; it’s a powerful call to action. This showcase features the artistic perspectives of international artists, each presenting unique interpretations of the Mediterranean. These works highlight the region’s beauty and the urgent need to protect its marine life and coral ecosystems. Coinciding with the 37th America’s Cup, the exhibition aims to attract a diverse audience of art lovers, environmental advocates, locals, international tourists, and art collectors. By merging art with environmental education, Studio 46 aspires to foster a deeper appreciation for the sea’s ecological importance and encourage collective action towards its conservation.
A central image of the exhibition features a female figure holding a seashell, created by artists Juliana Plexxo and JJ Walker. Representative of the internal rush of circulating blood, heard when pressing a sea shell to our ear - imagined by young and old as the sound of the sea, sharing the message that we must listen, collectively to the seas and support their health, renewal and well-being.
A Collaborative Effort: Partnering with BlueWave Alliance
Enhancing the exhibition’s impact, Studio 46 Barcelona has partnered with the BlueWave Alliance, a non-profit initiative powered by ISDIN, dedicated to restoring the health and beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. Founded in 2023, the BlueWave Alliance focuses on combating the degradation of the Mediterranean through conservation, restoration, and public awareness projects.
This collaboration ensures that the ART MED exhibition is not only a celebration of art but also a tangible contribution to marine conservation. 10% of the proceeds from sold paintings will be donated to the BlueWave Alliance, directly supporting their innovative projects, contributing to the broader fight against climate change.
