The artwork Liceu Cremat (Burned Liceum) by Joan Barbarà commemorates the tragic fire that struck the Gran Teatre del Liceu in 1994. Shortly after the fire, Barbarà — assisted by his son-in-law, Pere Busquets — entered the still-smoldering theater to take impressions and notes, which later served as the foundation for this large-format etching created in his studio.
The piece was etched on a 100 x 178 cm copper plate using the aquatint technique and printed in a strictly limited edition: 10 prints in black, 9 in red, and one each in gray, yellow, and blue.
