Ángulo Amarillo is a still life that showcases the creative freedom and expressive maturity characteristic of Joan Barbarà’s later period. Created using mixed media and collage on canvas, this piece conveys a subtle tension between geometry, color, and everyday objects.

The central element is a green cup — simple, yet full of presence. Its rounded shape contrasts with the rectangular structure of the frame and the solidity of the surrounding planes. The most striking feature is the upper left corner, where an intense yellow corner visually floods that section of the composition. This chromatic triangle not only gives the work its title but also generates a luminous atmosphere that radiates throughout the canvas.

The cup casts a shadow to the left, which seems to extend symbolically toward that yellow angle. This detail connects the two elements — the everyday object and abstract geometry — in a kind of silent dialogue, creating a play between light and volume, reality and abstraction.

Barbarà achieves a synthesis here between the figurative and the conceptual: the recognizable (the cup) coexists with the purely expressive (the yellow plane), in a balance that is very characteristic of his visual language. The collage adds subtle textures, enriching the surface without detracting from the composition’s impact.

As a whole, Ángulo Amarillo is a work that invites us to contemplate simplicity from a deeper perspective. A stripped-down still life, yes, but full of suggestion, where each form and color seems to carry emotional weight. A clear example of how Barbarà, with complete freedom, transformed the everyday into visual poetry.
